All treatment that is necessary to protect and maintain the health of your mouth, teeth and gums, including dentures, crowns, and some bridges is available on the NHS.
If you want to have cosmetic treatments such as tooth whitening, white fillings, or crowns on your back teeth, you may decide to have this treatment done privately.
The three NHS charge bands are as follows:
• Band 1: £17. This charge includes an examination, diagnosis and preventive advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
• Band 2: £47. This charge includes all the necessary treatment covered by the £16.50 charge, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment or extractions.
• Band 3: £204. This charge includes all the necessary treatment that is covered by the £16.50 and £45.60 charges, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and some bridges.
You can get free dental treatment (including check-ups) if you:
• are under 18
• are under 19 and in full-time education
